Atlanta, GA
Upon award of the contract for the design of the new Atlanta airport international terminal, Leo A Daly desired to create a project team office for the Joint Venture team in order to foster collaboration and excellence in the work. A location for the office was found near public transportation, neighborhood amenities and the airport itself, reducing need for car travel and creating more convenient access to project process by the client. Occupying an old converted warehouse building, the space was reinterpreted as an essay in the relationship of structure and skin so important to aircraft design. Metal stud structure was playfully arrayed and exposed using translucent plastic panels for daylight transmission deep into the space. As a long-term but temporary space, inexpensive material of standard corrugated siding, cork, plywood, carpet and paint were used to create a dynamic environment useful and fun for the staff on site.
