Custom Steel Shelf
Michael Patrick provided custom kitchen design services to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dillard in Dallas, Texas, on a project for which Marguerite Theresa Green was the Interior Designer. Mr. Patrick designed the layout and shapes of the kitchen and all of its functioning parts. He also custom designed a steel "shelf" over the opening from the kitchen to the seating area. This shelf provided a decorative element that held lights, created a flexible way to hang dried foods and other decorative items, and made a place for the hinged shutters to close in a way that appears intentional and appropriate. After the piece was created by a local artisan, the steel was heated and oiled to create a soft, grey, rust-resistance surface.
