Tradition - Hanging Church in Coptic Cairo

These images were taken from the Wikipedia entry on Coptic Churches and the Hanging Church in Coptic Cairo. The church was built in the 3rd or 4th Century AD. It is located above a gatehouse of Babylon Fortress. A 19th C facade covers the more ancient church within. As in other ancient cities, the ground level has risen several meters, making it's height above the street much less dramatic today than it would have been when it was built.
