A Living Presence Design Jury

Architectural students and professionals were invited to participate in an open design competition that was held in conjunction with the symposium, A Living Presence: Extending and Transforming the Tradition of Catholic Sacred Architecture. This Competition explored how the continuity of tradition ensures that truth resonates through the beauty that constitutes Catholicism’s unique architectural patrimony. There was no detailed program or specific site for this competition. However, projects submitted as competition entries had to comprise new Catholic sacred buildings or spaces (examples: a new church building or a complete chapel interior).

We received a wide range of entries from over all over the world. The quality of most of the entries was outstanding. The jury debated the merits of the all the work, especially the finalists, for several hours and, finally, selected a small number of projects for recognition. Unfortunately, the John Paul II Center was closed before we were able to arrange a display of the boards in that venue, so we have made them available here on this website and are working to make them available the the main symposium website as well. The Partnership would like to thank all the competition entrants and jurors for their efforts and dedication to this most worthy form of service to the Church.
